But this one I atually survived. We did 36 miles in 5.75 hours with about 4500 ft of climbing in 90 degree wether. I was actually able to keep up wit Fred this time, which I consider a huge achievement. The only problem I ran into was a cramping right calf muscle at the very end of the ride. Stopped at a gas station on the way home, bought two bottles of gatorade, and drank them. That seemed to fix the problem.
But now I know that rides in excess of 5 hours, I will need to bring something along for electrolyte replacement (sodium, potassium). I also discovered that my 70 ounes of water was just right for this length of ride. Any longer and I would have had to stop for a refill. It was also nice not losing 5 lbs of water. Only 3 lbs. this time.
The trail was similar: Start at Stven's Creek Canyon. Make our way up to Page Mill and Skyline via The Canyon Trail then the Grizzly Flats Trail. From there, worked our way over to Russian Ridge, and rode dome some trail that looked like it hadn't been used in years. Then turned around and came back.
Whew.
