I once again spent my last Sunday of the month with Michael and Jain Light at Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz for a ROMP bike ride. The weather along the coast was wonderful- middle 60s, mostly clear skies. The trails, however, were still a bit muddy in spots.
During one of the more high-speed downhill sections, one of the other riders (Robert) decided to pass me, then proceeded to get his front end stuck in a mud puddle at high speed.
The results were not pretty. He broke his collar bone, and ended up having to walk his bike back to the parking lot. I think this is what they mean when they tell you to 'ride within your limits'. Ooops. It was very unnerving to see the rider in front of you suddenly catapult into the air then come crashing back down to the ground.
In most other respects, it was a nice way to spend 15 miles on a Sunday.
