Last week I took the plunge and signed up for Sirius Satellite Radio. Why not XM instead? Well, Sirius is the only satellite radio provider who carries NPR, and they also allow customers to stream their audio content over the net. And if you buy more than one month at a time, the price does come down to about $10/month.
The main motivators for going this route were:
1. Young and I both hate commercial FM radio. Too little new music, too many commercials.
2. We both like being introduced to new music, but we don't have time to really follow the scene by going out to shows all the time.
So far, I've been really happy. The audio quality is teriffic, and the diversity of music offerings is amazing. So far today, I would say < 5% of the songs I've heard were songs I had heard before. Compare that to FM radio where 90% is playlist repitition. What an improvement.
